400 T Motors

Tractor, or Puller, are conventional motors mounted on the front of a plane.

 

I really like this motor on a 8x4.3 or 7x6 Prop. It's one ounce lighter than the Mega 16/15/7, and the same kV. You'll need to push you batteries back and re-test the center of gravity. But this motor will change how your plane flys ! Fast when you want it, 3D, and it slows way down. I highly recommend a 3 cell LiPo for this motor.

400T continues to be very popular among the Warbird flyers.

The 400T is a gold colored motor with a 3.17mm axle for direct drive applications. This motor is comparable to the Mega 16/15/7 but an ounce lighter. We have this motor in both tractor and puller styles. Check out the video of the very first time flying with a 400T on a Dandy Sport. I was a little nervous about just droping the plane on take off, but Hugh's data showed that I would have better than 1:1 performance. I do not have the talent for 3D, but you should get the idea of what this little motor can do in a plane. I do not think this is an appropriate 3D motor, since you would want a bigger prop than 8" for 3D. But this is an excellent motor for Warbirds ! You can start with a 8x4 until you feel comfortable with the decent speed, then go to 7x6 for even higher speed. As you can see from the data below, you trade a little bit of thrust for higher speed. The APC props are more efficient than the GWS props.

 

To mount this motor you have many options. The Axi motor mount works well. I use a GWS gearbox frame without the gears to hold the motor and mount it easily on a stick. I also mount it directly to a firewall. Send us a note and we can hook you up with a frame. For pushers, I drill a couple of holes in an aluminum L bracket and slide it onto the back of the Wing.
